An Australian teen has been honored for helping stop a bus full of students onboard that began rolling toward a gas station last week.
The 14-year-old toldAustralia’s ABC Newsthat she quickly realized “there was no one at the steering wheel” as the bus began to roll. She then noticed the danger they were in.
“It was heading near the petrol tank and no one was doing anything,” she recalled. “So, I jumped up, got into action and steered it away.”
Miller “safely” steered the bus away from the Mini Mart, as well as oncoming traffic, pedestrians and more than three parked cars, according to the business’ post on Facebook.
The “true little hero” then managed to bring the bus and its passengers “safely to a stop,” the store added.

“I had a guy pumping gas at the time,” owner Erin Witton told ABC News. “If that bus had hit the bowser, worse case it would have blown.”
Miller said her initial concern was the fate of the kids on the bus. “If I didn’t do anything about it, something really bad could have happened to the kids,” she told the outlet.
Witton has since thanked Miller “for her selfless and quick thinking” during the terrifying event, which she believes “could’ve ended catastrophically” had the teen not stepped up, according to the Mini Mart’s post.
“I [truly] believe Kevin Hogan MP needs to jump on this and get this girl a well deserved community bravery award,” the post said.
“All the team at North Casino Mini Mart are in debt and just super thankful for this beautiful young lady.”
