First of all , let me say Bitten episode 2 was much better than the premiere . It came packed with all theinteresting info and questions that the first installment completely failed to mention , set up the stakes , and give us a glimpse of what being a werewolfis like in this universe . As it work out , it ’s a lot of paperwork .
What I ’m trying to say is that , now the game has finally begun , I find myself question the basic premise of the show ’s setting — but I’mgetting in the lead of myself . Let me recapitulate the instalment , since it ’s chiefly just aninfo dump on Elena and her menage :
• Jeremy — The leader . He has daddy consequence , in that his dada hatedhim . But , it ’s also obvious that his issues translated into trying to care for hisfamily , as opposed to seeking another father physique for himself . Indeed , hewants Elena back for this reasonableness .
• Clay — Jeremy ’s ( adopted ? ) brother . The bad boy who datedElena , is still ghost with Elena , follows her around everywhere ( ostensiblyfor her prophylactic ) , and has some kind of hold on Elena , even though he ’s creepy-crawly anddouchy .
• Antonio — Jeremy ’s second - hired hand Isle of Man and group chef . Heseems pretty fair .
• Nick — Antonio ’s son and the nuts fellow member of the folk , who ’s happy either challenging Elena to a battle or jumping into her bedshirtless to wake her up . I ’m passably trusted the show stand for this to be around the bend , butit add up off as super , ace creepy .
• Pete — A former roadie turned into a slacker wolfman , although he also seems like an all right dude . He ’s fast to Jeremy becausewhen Pete by chance metamorphose into a wolf in front of a girlfriend and had to killher , he was give-up the ghost to be executed by the Alpha — presumably the High Poobah ofall Werewolves — until Jeremy step in .
• Logan — The psychologist we hear in the first episode , andElena ’s pal . He ’s good - natured and has nothing to do this episode except showup at the house .
And here ’s what we read about Elena : ostensibly she firstcame to Stonehaven as Clay ’s girlfriend , got bite , survived — possibly thefirst distaff to ever do so — and startedworking for Jeremy . A class ago , she was sent to block a gentleman’s gentleman name Jose Carterfrom exposing the clan by selling a werewolf arm he ’d contend to acquire . Josewon’t sell it at any damage ( so why did he even meet with her ? ) and Elena isforced to kill him .
This take a shit Elena deplorable , even though it ’s Werewolf Law that shehad to kill him if there was no other choice , and the bozo was kind of a dickanyways . She ’s sad because she matte up she suffer her humankind in that moment , whichis clearly important enough to her that she immediately fled to Toronto to tryto pretend to be a full human as much as she could . Obviously , the family knowswerewolves should n’t stamp out people ( e.g. , Pete ) unless it ’s the only room to savethe pack , so they have a hard time comprehending why any lycanthrope would be soupset about kill this mother fucker .
But therein lies my — I do n’t want to say problem with Bitten , because I ’m not sure it is one yet — my mix-up . This is a show about awerewolf who does n’t like to kill citizenry at all . Okay , Elena ’s trying tocontain the monster inside her ; that ’s received tragical monster operating procedure . The trouble is that none of the other werewolf seem to be monsters . They ’re allreally disconcert when someone murders the great unwashed near their household . They utter no desireto wipe out anyone or anything — not even the Mutt , really — which make it looklike Elena ’s murder trouble is her problem , not a werewolf trouble . It ’s hardto get too invest in Elena fight between two reality when she ’s the onlywerewolf ostensibly having these issues .
If that were all , I would n’t listen , but the whole werewolfsociety is strange , piece . So wolfman either adhere to the Pack , or they’reloners and called Mutts and regarded with suspiciousness if not straight-out hostility?That seems kind of were - racist . Is n’t Elena a Mutt , check as she forsake herfamily to go live alone among the humans ? ( I imagine the show has an answer forthis , but I ’m going to ward off researching the books while I do these recaps , because I require to see how the show handles it ) .
And even that would be cool if it were n’t for the fact thatJeremy keeps a shit - gross ton of files on all the Mutts in the basement ofStonehaven . Not only is this super Big Brother , this is the first time I’veever watch a show about werewolves who keep paperwork . Jeremy tells Elena all her former research is in the basement , just as she leftit . She pours over files to see if she can guess who the Mutt who killed thegirl is … instead , of , you know , turninginto a savage and go hunt .
There is a reason for this , in that there are hunters aboutand Jeremy wants to wait a 24-hour interval until Logan arrives and the whole family istogether . So they wait , and when Logan arrives , they wait some more until nighttime comes . Elena eventuallyfinds a shanty shack where the Mutt / killer live on ( he ’s go for the present moment ) butonce they find it , she , Clay and Nick all now maneuver back to Stonehavento envision out what to do next , as oppose to just catching the fashion plate .
To be average , even the show realizes this is a awful thought , because the next daybreak , a new body is found mighty outside the Stonehavengrounds — that of a trivial male child . The hunt is officially on , both for the killerand any skirt chaser unfortunate enough to be meet by the increase numbers ofhunters . Hopefully Elena has something in her files about how to trade withthis .
Assorted Musings :
• I get the feeling there ’s a lot of Axe trunk spray being usedin the Stonehaven home .
• The first thing Elena does when she hits the Werewolf Hallof Records is start picking up scrolls — specifically , the Scroll ofExposition , which explains how werewolves are made , postdate by the Scroll ofSexist Exposition , which explains there are no female werewolves because womenare too debile to survive the bite and translation process . And holy crap wasthat voiceover ridiculous .
• Why is there a cage in the cellar if nobody turns into anactual loup-garou , they can turn into brute whenever they want and they stayperfectly lucid ? Is it for prisoners ? Why keep them among all the files ? !
• Syfy should really just follow its seventh heaven and rent Bitten be the first non - pay cable showto feature nudity . You ca n’t really do a show that ’s about sex activity and werewolvesjustice if you ca n’t ever show the sex . Besides , the first cable post totake this jeopardy will stumble a ratings gold mine — and today , I really doubt manyadvertisers would pull out .
• I ca n’t differentiate you how discomfited I am Bitten uses the news Mutts to describe rogue werewolves and not “ wereholes”or “ asswolves . ”
