Yesterday morning in Sofia , Bulgaria , anti - Communist street artist painted over a monument commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Soviet “ liberation ” ( i.e. a communistic coup d’état ) of Bulgaria in 1944 . Who did they sum up to the statue ? The Joker , among others .

[ T]he lettering below the composition proclaimed it to be “ in step with the time ” [ … ] mirthful book characters lead the way , with The Mask , Batman ’s bane the Joker , Wolverine of ten - Men renown , Superman and Captain America all boast , joined by Santa Claus and Ronald McDonald , among others . The flag nurse by the soldiers was paint in the star and stripes of the US flag .
Graffiti is apparently a common happening on this particular monument , and this belated redesign syncs up with the 2011 Sofia Design Week .
