According to no less an authority than the New York Times , internet attacks on Google last calendar month may be the work of scholar with ties to the Chinese military . Not so , responds one of the schools accused .
The NYT reports anon. informant involved with the investigation into the attack are suggesting that two Chinese schools , Shanghai Jiaotong University and the Lanxiang Vocational School , were the origin point for the attacks , even drop dead so far as to suggest that they know which students were involved :
Evidence acquired by a United States military contractor that faced the same fire as Google has even lead police detective to suspect a connexion to a specific computer science class , taught by a Ukrainian prof at the vocational schooltime .
The story blend on to describe Jiaotong as having “ one of China ’s top computer science programs , ” and Lanxiang as having “ established with military living and [ training ] some data processor scientists for the military , ” before another anonymous author – this time a professor in Jiaotong ’s School of Information Security Engineering – is quoted as put up the allegations :
I ’m not surprised . Actually student whoop into foreign Web website is quite normal … I trust there ’s two kinds of situations . One is it ’s a all individual deed of misconduct , done by one or two geek students in the schoolhouse who are just keen on experimenting with their hacking skills check from the school , since the sources in the school and internet are so special . Or it could be that one of the university ’s I.P. addresses was hijacked by others , which frequently happens .
When reach by the British Guardian paper , however , a voice for Lanxiang was less unforced to bestow to the paranoid story :
We did not know Google was hacked before the New York Times contacted us – when they foretell , we secernate them we know nothing but they still made the story up . Our students are center school graduate , and we prepare them to use computer software like Photoshop . If our students are so skilled they can hack Google , then what are they here for ? … I trust the media can be cautious about this report . We do n’t want to worsen US - China relations or draw interior attention .
