This week ’s episode was amazingly slow — the first half could have been forebode “ The exciting world of Highland snag payment . ” Then the audience and Claire remembered a spot of chronicle that ’s going to be a disaster for her current political party . And then we get a cliffhanger .
So , before I launch into the recap as a whole , I have to say that there ’s a pattern educate . And it ’s not one I ’m okay with . The normal is that Jamie does n’t really do much in the episode until about a third to halfway in . That ’s a tragedy . It ’s a personal tragedy , because I have sex Sam Hueghan , and it ’s a worldwide tragedy because one of the best region of this series is watching him and Catriona Balfe ’s behind - burn chemical science .

At the end of the last episode , Dougal take Claire with him on the tour of garner rent . This journey has once again highlighted Claire ’s changeless feeling of being an outsider , which she ’s been drag around since before she even end up in the yesteryear .
She ’s quoting Donne while the humanity wrestle . They verbalise Gaelic so she ca n’t understand their ill-gotten stories . And the one time she in reality starts to enjoy herself , drinking with the women of a Greenwich Village they ’re in and being confident to pee in a pail so they can use it for fleece , Angus sweep up her away .

Late in the instalment , Angus lead the men into a brawl to protect Claire ’s honour . She ’s been called a fancy woman , and , as she ’s informed , “ You ’re a guest of the MacKenzie . We can diss you but god aid any other valet who does . ” I have a inhuman heart , and I was still touched by that .
There ’s also Jamie , who has taken to sleeping outside her door to protect her , and the attorney charged with keeping track of the rents , Ned Gowan . Ned joins Claire in her Donne practice , making clear that Claire ’s not so distant from these people as she ’d like to guess .
Both the scene up of Claire as an foreigner and the MacKenzie kin group ’s defense of her nicely lead story into the instalment ’s cliffhanger : The group bleed into some redcoats , including one who had been hiding amongst a village to begin with . Claire is ask if she ’s with them by pick or not . And disappearance to blacken .
The most interesting aspect of this episode is Claire ’s find that Dougal and Ned are bring up money to reinstate the Stuarts to the throne of England . At first , Claire imagine that they ’re just lining Dougal ’s pockets . She ca n’t understand Gaelic , call back , so when she get a line Dougal use Jamie ’s whip scars a demonstration to whip people into a giving frenzy , she assumes the worst .
And Ned does nothing to dissuade her when she face up him . well she think they ’re steal than that they ’re rebels , since she is still English and Dougal ’s still untrusting of her .
But she eventually picks out a few words of Dougal ’s speech , and a quick flashback to her historian husband explain the neglect rising spur her to action . Claire does n’t really angst over whether she should say anything , the way of life a more time - travel genre - savvy soul might . She tries to tell apart them that they ’re headed for a battle that can not be won , but is good ignored . And she ca n’t press any further , less her knowledge of things she should n’t know land her into bother .
antecedently , Claire ’s future knowledge had only done her good and it was her 20th century economic value that landed her in hot water . That put her in opposition to the others . Now , she knows something and wants to help , but fails . It ’s an impotence that I ’m front forwards to seeing more of .
