Sunday ’s episode of Fear the Walking Dead was the mid - time of year finale , leave watcher with a few cliffhanger as the show goes forth until August . It ’s been a mostly monotonous , once in a while interesting , season but this episode finally put yield us some meat on the bone ( so to speak )
In the episode titled “ Shiva , ” Celia ( Marlene Forte ) lay out a very unique position on the zombie apocalypse . You see Celia , the matriarch of the Mexican domicile the group has ended up at , keeps her numb awake . The basement is filled with the zombies of her loved ones . And when Strand ( Colman Domingo ) shoots his fellow / her boy Thomas ( Dougray Scott ) in the head , she ’s furious . This kind of finality can not tolerate , and she banishes him .
Here ’s where things get interesting . Celia does n’t see the zombi apocalypse as an “ apocalypse , ” she sees it as the “ root of eternal life . ” Now , as long as you do n’t destroy someone ’s head , they can not die .
Whoa . That ’s … kind of lawful , proper ? I mean , obviously , the zombie versions of the great unwashed have no morality or consciousness and will blindly bolt down anyone in their path . When Madison tries to kill Celia and Daniel burn her house down , you understand their disgust at this idea . Years and years of zombie movies and TV shows have led us to a universal truth that these creatures are n’t human .
But I applaud Fear the take the air Dead for provide a flipside to the argument . This betimes in the zombie outbreak ( I intend , we ’re belike only like a calendar month into it at this stage , right ? ) it makes sense hoi polloi would have dissimilar interpretations . What work less sense are Madison and Daniel ’s instant and red rejection of this more affirmative view , but that ’s another story . For instance , here ’s what Daniel thinks of Celia ’s idea :
It ’s also big that this belief has begun to splinter the primary radical . Will these complex , interesting thematic threads keep when the show come back in August ? We do n’t have intercourse , but it ’s promise even so .
