In a recentinterview with DP Review , Fujifilm managing director Toshihisa Iida stated that it would be good for their company for big blade like Canon and Nikon to offer high-pitched - goal mirrorless cameras . This might seem counterintuitive coming from an underdog , but actually it makes complete sense .
Mirrorless cameras ( or ILCs , whichever you opt ) , have been extremely slow to catch on in North America . Despite substantial maturation in Asia , it seems that Americans can not get used to the idea thatsmaller camera can take just as awing pictures as crowing DSLRs . Companies like Fujifilm , which produce mirrorless cameras exclusively , are doing everything they can to twist around this misconception .

When require about the major challenge facing Fujifilm in the future , Iida , a senior handler in its imaging naval division , had this to say :
Our biggest challenge is customer awareness , and customer didactics . We conceive that at least 50 % of the market could be mirrorless in the time to come , but what ’s drop is awareness on the part of the consumers about the benefits of mirrorless .
In my opinion this is due to the want of direction on mirrorless from the two big brands , Canon and Nikon . The Nikon 1 and EOS M did n’t satisfy customers so many consumer see mirrorless as something substandard to DSLRs . That ’s the biggest challenge . We need to educate customers that mirrorless is not deficient , it can be better than DSLR .

Then , when ask if Canon or Nikon ’s participation in the high-pitched - end mirrorless market would aid Fujifilm , Iida brusquely stated , “ Yes . Because it would increase awareness . ”
It does make common sense . If a company like Canon put their full weight behind market a quality mirrorless photographic camera ( not the fail EOS M ) , it would only be a matter of time before the drove of consumers loyal to that brand would come around to the reality that , for many , mirrorless is a with child alternative to a cumbersome DSLR . That variety in perception would inevitably drag hoi polloi to consider other brands , like Fujifilm , at the same time as make competition for them .
