essay putting staring joy into words . The English language has plenty of worthy adjective and beautiful metaphors but nothing quite comes close to actually , perfectly capturing what it feel like to becompletely meet with happiness . Toreverberate with pleasure . To swim on cloud nine . No , to adequately captivate that feeling , you need more than just Word . You need pictures , you need sounds , you need story . You need … Amélie .

Directed byJean - Pierre Jeunet , the 2001 fantasy romance lately find a limited variation Blu - shaft of light steelbook sacking , and it feel like the gross opportunity to revisit a film that has long been one of my personal favorites . I realize Amélie in theaters when it was first released and instantly became obsessed . It had , and still has , an energy , attitude , and voice all its own . In the years that succeed , I watched it often .

But , it ’s been a lot of years since then and to be honorable , I had n’t pick up it again in a while . During that time , the humankind has changed . I ’ve changed . And when I pour down in Amélie this hebdomad it strike me in ways I never imagined . From the very first moments , where the film starts to talk about random acts of beauty happening at the same time all over France , a rush of emotions start deluge through me . Could it have been the 2d glass of wine-colored I was enjoying ? For sure . And yet from the first frame of Amélie you jazz you ’re in for something extra . Something that , if you ’ve already experienced it , is almost more exciting because you know what you ’re in for : a cinematic hair curler coaster ride of laughs , love , and elation .

For anyone who maybe has n’t seen the picture show , Amélie trace the life-time of an introverted womanhood ( toy with a contagious , infectious sweetness by Audrey Tautou ) who regain design by help others via random acts of forgivingness . Amélie ’s military action make everyone around her happy , but she ’s still sad , so she sample to employ the same manoeuvre on her crush , a man named Nico play by Mathieu Kassovitz .

Amélie is so much more than just that plot though . It ’s a celebration of life . A reminder that the goodness you put in the world can and will come back to you . As Amélie move through Jeunet ’s vibrant , lush Paris , you ca n’t help oneself but smile the entire time . The film is hilarious , sweet , heartbreaking , and reaffirming , often all at once . Every single character is totally relatable but whole unique and specific . Each line of dialogue or piece of information seems random but also totally precise and purposeful . Then , on top of all that , Jeunet waver in moments of fantasy enrich the world even further . Paintings move , bedside figures verbalize , and people melt into the floor , all tote up a level of wonder to the already stunning reality . You simply ca n’t watch Amélie and not experience fantastic . It capture so many hyper - specific but radical - relatable slices of life while also building a earth full of thaumaturgy and wonder .

Those feelings coursed through me for the integral rewatched . I grinned , I express mirth , I often wiped away crying as moments I love and cite growing up flickered by . Then , in the end , when Jeunet really amps thing up , I became a snuffle spate . Most of that was because the motion-picture show does such a fantastical line of making you be intimate everyone and everything happen on cover in way 99 % of other movies would never dream of . But a modest part was also just a reflection of the world today liken to almost 25 years ago . thing are always messed up . People are always sad . But watch a moving-picture show this felicitous , this positivistic , this obsessed with the looker of life history made me think about the good things in my life more than I unremarkably do , and that was a gift .

life-time is backbreaking , but it can be quite beautiful too . And that ’s especially the case if you use some of it to watch Amélie . It ’s a perfect movie . A celebration of all that ’s possible and good in the reality told in a means you ’ve never seen before and may never see again . I loved it before but , rewatching it again , I love it more than I even commemorate .
