Jenna Bush Hagersays she convinced herself that her friends and family would re-wear their bridesmaid dresses from her wedding — and now realizes she was mistaken.

On Friday morning, duringToday with Hoda & Jenna, Bush Hager, 41, admitted to her co-hostHoda Kotbthat she followed the time-honored tradition of brides assuring their bridal parties they’ll reuse their bridesmaids dresses.

During their conversation, Kotb, 59, acknowledged how expensive having a bridal party could be. “That can be a pricey thing…” She added, “It costs a lot and they’re obviously dresses you don’t usually wear again, no matter what anybody says.”

Bush Hager agreed with her co-host, noting how members of the bridal party will “never” wear the dress again after the event.

Kotb went on to note how brides commonly tell their friends they can use the dress again if they alter it after the wedding. “They’re like, ‘And you know what you can do? Cut it off, do something with the…”

Bush Hager interjected and quickly admitted to Kotb that she did the same thing. “The sad thing, the really sad thing about my own self, is I tried to pull that brick with all the girls," she said. She clarified for Kotb that her friends wore “a rainbow of colors — like blue and purples and spectrum.”

She said, “But no dress was the same, so I kept being like, ‘Do you feel like you’ll wear this again?’” Bush Hager continued, “And the thing is, once you’ve worn it walking down the aisle, you’re never going to wear it again.”

During the episode, Bush Hager also shared that rather than have traditional bridesmaids, she embraced the Southern tradition of including a “house party" on her special day.

“I didn’t actually have bridesmaids. I had my sister [Barbara Bush] stand up there,” she explained. “I had what was called a house party, so people who stand at the front who are my friends. But not the whole thing.”
