A Texas woman is mourning her 31-year-old husband and father of her three children after he died while trying to help tow a stranded friend’s vehicle.

Tyler White is being remembered as a “selfless,” “generous” and “hardworking” man after police say he died when an SUV struck him while he was attempting to remove his friend’s vehicle from being stuck off a roadway in Arlington early on Saturday, Dec. 14.

“When they arrived on scene, officers found the 31-year-old man and a 42-year-old woman lying injured on the ground,” police said. “Both were transported to a local hospital where the man was later pronounced deceased.”

Police said that a 2004 GMC Yukon had hazard lights on when a 32-year-old woman driving a BMW X1 “approached the area at a high rate of speed and struck both [pedestrians], as well as the Yukon.” She had to be freed from the vehicle before being taken to the hospital.

Breya told the station they parked on the shoulder of the road when Tyler went to retrieve ropes out of their trunk to help tow the friend’s Hyundai Veloster. At one point, she saw a “bright light” and heard an engine as she was sitting in a vehicle. “It’s just, ‘boom!’ And then I just slide, the car just slides off.”

Breya — who has three young children with Tyler — is remembering her husband as a “phenomenal man” who “put his family first.” He worked as an airplane mechanic and loved to fish and hunt.

Loved ones have now launched aGoFundMe fundraiserto support the family. More than $13,000 has been raised as of Monday, Dec. 16.
