The world ofBridgertonis expanding!
In May 2021, Netflix announced they were creatinga spinoff series focused on Queen Charlotte(Golda Rosheuvel), and they recently shared more details about what’s to come.
While the current series followsthe Bridgerton family’s journey to love, the new series, titledQueen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story, will be all about the royal’s origin story, including her youth and love life.

Golda Rosheuval (Queen Charlotte), Adjoa Andoh (Lady Agatha Danbury), and Ruth Gemmell (Lady Violet Bridgerton) will all reprise their roles fromBridgertonin this series.
Additionally, Netflix announced a handful of new cast members on March 30, including India Amarteifio as Young Queen Charlotte, Michelle Fairley as Princess Augusta, Corey Mylchreest as Young King George, and Arsema Thomas as Young Agatha Danbury. The cast also includes Sam Clemmett as Young Brimsley, Richard Cunningham as Lord Bute, Tunji Kasim as Adolphus, Rob Maloney as the Royal Doctor, Cyril Nri as Lord Danbury, and Hugh Sachs as Brimsley.
WillQueen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Storybe based on Julia Quinn’s books?

Seeing as Queen Charlotte doesn’t appear in theBridgertonbooks, it’s likely that most of the spinoff series will stray away from Quinn’s novels.
“I haven’t read the books and I made a point of not reading the books because the Queen is not in them,” Rosheuvel told PEOPLE about preparing for her role onBridgerton. “My point of call was really about the scripts, the world that we put Queen Charlotte in. This historical person is being put into a new world, so how does she relate? How does she react? How does she live her life within the world ofBridgerton, within the world that Chris Van Dusen and Shondaland have created?”
That being said, Violet Bridgerton’s backstory is briefly covered in “Violet in Bloom,” which appears in the collectionThe Bridgertons: Happily Ever, so it’s possible that the spinoff could pull from that.
“I have always felt that I could not write a full-length novel about Violet and Edmund Bridgerton, despite countless request[s] from readers,“Quinn wrote on her website. “I thought (and still think) it would be too difficult, knowing that he would die so young. But I wanted to show a bit of their courtship, and the episodic nature ofViolet in Bloomgave me the perfect opportunity to do this.”
Is there a trailer forQueen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story?
On Sept. 24, Netflixshared a clip from the new series, which shows Queen Charlotte’s first interaction with her to-be-husband King George, and on Feb. 14,the streamer released the official teaser trailerfor the series, which gives a look at the drama, intrigue and steamy first moments of young Charlotte’s reign and early courtship.
In March,Netflix unveiled the official trailer for the show, which sees Charlotte “cause scandal” as she falls for King George.
